8 Great Places To Visit Around Modesto

At Honey's Air & Solar, we are proud to serve the community of Modesto, CA. Located in California’s Central Valley, Modesto is the home to the largest winery in the world, and the town is surrounded by breathtaking scenery and farmland. With so many amazing places to visit, you may wonder which are the locals’ favorites. Here are our favorite top eight places we recommend when you come to our city.

1. Modesto Certified Farmers Market

For more than 40 years, the Modesto Certified Farmers Market has been the place to go for fresh produce, exceptional art, and delicious food. In addition to seasonal fruits and vegetables, local farmers offer a selection of meats, nuts, bread, honey, sauces, pet treats, and more for visitors and residents to enjoy. Shop for items from local artists, such as fabrics, spices, handcrafted soaps, quilts, and tote bags. The market is open year-round on Saturdays, and it also opens on Thursdays during the spring season.

2. Tuolumne River Regional Park

Enjoy more than 500 acres of nature at Tuolumne River Regional Park. Perfect for solo travelers, families, and small groups, the park offers hiking trails, picnic areas, and playgrounds. Take a break along the seven-mile stretch of the Tuolumne River to look for some of the area’s fascinating flora and fauna.

3. George Lucas Plaza

George Lucas Plaza celebrates the work of the world-renowned screenwriter, director, and producer who grew up in Modesto. Dedicated on July 11, 1997, the plaza is located in a part of old downtown Modesto. Much of the park features statues of scenes from American Graffiti and references to the 1960s cruising culture of the city.

4. The State Theatre

Established in 1934, the State Theatre offers concerts, films, comedy performances, and family-friendly Saturday morning donuts and cartoons. Renovated in 2005, the building maintains much of the original Art Deco aesthetic. As a non-profit organization, the State Theatre is supported through visitor fees and donations.

5. Great Valley Museum

The Great Valley Museum features science and natural history displays and a planetarium. Permanent exhibits include items from five distinct habitats in California and displays of artifacts from the Me-Wuk tribe. The remainder of the museum is used for rotating exhibits. It’s located on the Modesto Junior College West Campus.

6. McHenry Mansion

McHenry Mansion is one of the most fascinating architectural landmarks in Modesto. The original owner, Robert McHenry, came to the city during the Gold Rush and operated several businesses. McHenry expanded his interests to include land ownership, ranching, and farming. Completed in 1883, the home has a lovely Victorian style, and every room is adorned with antique furniture. Take free tours and browse the gift shop. The mansion is available to the public for weddings and other special events.

7. Graceada Park

Graceada Park is the oldest in Modesto. It was designed by john McClaren, who also designed the famous Golden Gate Bridge. Built by the city’s Women’s Improvement Club in 1906, the park features green areas, trees, tennis courts, and an amphitheater. You can still see one of the park’s earliest trees. Native to Australia, the bunya bunya tree was planted in 1916. Today it stands over 100 feet tall and drops cones that weigh 10 to 20 pounds.

8. Yosemite National Park

Take a two-hour scenic drive from Modesto to the glorious Yosemite National Park. Located in the Sierra Nevada mountains, Yosemite is known for massive granite rock faces, spectacular waterfalls, meadows speckled with wildflowers, towering giant sequoias, and impressive valleys. The founder of the Sierra Club, John Muir, played an important role in protecting the land, and it has inspired some of the world’s greatest artists, including Ansel Adams. Visitors to the park can access hiking and biking trails, scenic drives, campsites, guided tours, naturalist programs, fishing, horseback riding, rock climbing, boating, skiing, and more.
